I bought my house about three years ago. I got a really good deal on the house because it needed quite a bit of work. When I first looked at the house, I was not convinced that it was for me. I actually continued looking for houses for about another three months. My mind kept going back to this house though. I really liked the layout of it, and it had a lot of land with it. It had the potential of being my dream home, but I knew that it would need a lot of work to be just that. I decided to just go ahead and buy it and work on it for as long as I needed to make it my dream home. Well, it has been three years, and I am about half way done. I had to take a little break from the aesthetics of my house to save money to fix my air conditioning system. I knew that the air conditioning system was not working when I bought the house. I also knew that anything HVAC related would be an expensive fix, but I took that into consideration. It took me a few months of saving in order to be able to afford fixing my air conditioning system. I am so glad that I decided to do that before continuing to fix up my house. It is so much nicer working in an air conditioned house. It makes me so happy to be nice and cool. I find that I get more work done as well. I have a long way to go, but at least I have air conditioning now.

One of my favorite things in life is being a big sister.

I know that it sounds childish to say “big sister,” but I do not know how else to express what it is like.

My sister looks up to me so much, and it has honestly made me evaluate the things that I do and the reasons that I do them since I know that she is watching me. She is ten years younger than I am, so we did not play much together. I was out of the house by the time that she was eight. Now, she is eighteen and in college. I cannot believe how quickly time flies by. She is going to a small college a few hours south of my parents’ house. She is living in the dorms, but they are not the nicest. They are not terrible, but the air conditioning does not work very well in her dorm room, so I decided to buy her an air conditioner to put in her window. I made sure to ask if that would be okay since the college would have to pay more on electricity, but they said that it was fine since the AC did not work well in her room. It was super sweet to see her reaction. She was super surprised and happy to have an air conditioner that worked. I knew that she always loved sleeping in a cool room, so I cannot imagine how hard it was for her to sleep when her room was warm. Hopefully, the air conditioner that I got her will help her get some much needed rest.

I absolutely love being a mom.

I just gave birth to our first little baby boy.

He is so sweet. I cannot even express how much I love that little guy. He just turned two months old, and I cannot believe how fast time has flown past. It feels like yesterday that I was in the hospital meeting him for the first time. I really wish that time would stand still for a few years. I am already dreading him getting any older. He is a pretty good baby, but he does get fussy quite a bit. I have tried many things to settle him down, but I have found that the best thing is to sit him in front of the fireplace. He loves to watch the fake flames. It is an electric fireplace, so the flames aren’t even real flames, but that does not matter to him. He will literally lie down in front of it and watch it for an hour or more. I have never loved my fireplace so much. I have always wanted a “real” fireplace, but I would not trade this electric one for a real one anyday. Now that I know how much my baby loves this fireplace, I am suddenly satisfied with it. My husband laughs at me because I used to mention how much I wanted a wood burning fireplace almost every single day. He always had an eye out to see if he could find a wood fireplace for a cheap price, but he no longer has to look. I hope that our electric fireplace keeps working to soothe our fussy baby boy.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed about being a parent.

I have always loved children.

After just a few months of marriage, I was ready to have our first baby. My husband convinced me to wait at least a year. He wanted time with just us two before kids came along. I am so thankful that he convinced me to wait because it is simply not the same once children come into your life. We now have four children, and I can say that there is really nothing in this life that can truly prepare you for children. I was not prepared for how much work raising these little ones would be. I have a three year old right now, and he is going through one of those naughty stages. My husband and I found out the hard way that our three year old son had been throwing food into the HVAC vents in our living room. We came home one afternoon and realized that the house had a foul smell to it. We thought it was the trash, so we took it out, but the next day we walked into the house, and it had the same foul smell. We looked for hours to try and find the source. Eventually, my husband called me over to a vent in the living room and asked me if I thought the smell was coming from it. I knew right away that the vent was definitely what smelled. We stuck a vacuum hose down there and tried to suck as much out as we could. We discovered that it was a bunch of old food down there. It stunk terribly. Our three year old had been throwing food down in the HVAC vents for who knows how long.

I love road trips so much.

People ask me all the time if I get sick of driving since I drive a school bus for a living, and I live about thirty minutes from work. I honestly do not ever get sick of driving. I love it so much, and I think that is the only reason I have stuck with this job for so long. Something about driving relaxes me, and I truly enjoy it. I offer to drive buses for field trips and church events all of the time. I recently offered to drive a bus full of adults to a park about four hours away. They were celebrating something, and they wanted to go to this beautiful park for the special occasion. I love driving, so even though it would be an all day event I was not worried about it. Something I was not made aware of until the day of was the fact that the bus I would be driving did not have air conditioning. It was over eighty degrees outside in the middle of July, and there was no air conditioning in the bus. I could not believe that the people riding the bus did not have a problem with not having air conditioning. It was the hottest road trip that I have ever been on. It was sticky and humid the entire trip. I was so miserable. Even though I got to drive, I was still not very happy because of the heat. I have learned from that experience to always ask if there is air conditioning before offering to drive for people.

I have worked for the same company for over fifteen years now. It is not really that I love what I do. It is that I love the people that I work with everyday. I have some of the best coworkers on the planet, and my manager is the sweetest person ever. She works so hard to make sure that everyone under her is fully trained and equipped for the task that they are given. I have never once heard her raise her voice at anyone even if they were annoying her on purpose. It is for these reasons that I have stayed with this company for so long. It has not been an easy fifteen years especially not during the summer months because the air conditioning system at work has never worked well. It does not cool the building hardly at all. It is always warm and stuffy in the building no matter where you are at. I have a fan in my office that I keep pointed at me all day long in order to stay cool enough. It was hard to deal with, and one of my coworkers quit working there after just a couple of years because they could not stand the heat of the summer months. I was so happy when we were called to a meeting yesterday, and we were told that a new air conditioning system was being installed next week throughout the entire building. We would no longer have to suffer through the brutal summer months. The entire crowd cheered with delight as we were told about the new air conditioning system. I really hope that all goes as planned, and we will have a new air conditioning system by the end of next week.

I have a very cold apartment and an even colder bedroom.

I do not know why, but my apartment is always colder than it should be.

I have the thermostat set for seventy-five degrees, and it never gets above sixty degrees in my apartment. I told my landlord about the issue, but he has not had anyone take a look at it yet. Last winter, I lived with it, and I was fine. This winter is quite a bit cooler, and I think that makes a huge difference. My bedroom is even colder than the rest of the apartment, and I think that is because there are so many windows in my bedroom. I thought it was really cool when I first moved into the apartment. I loved all of the windows. It makes the room very bright and inviting, but I did not realize back then how much heat I would lose through those beautiful windows. I bought a small space heater to go in my bedroom last Winter. I used it all Winter long, and it worked great at keeping my bedroom warmer. I used it for the first half of this Winter as well, and it worked great until I woke up one night in horror. The heater had caught on fire. It had melted the outlet completely. Thankfully, I was able to get the fire out on my own, and it did not ruin much. I have learned my lesson and I will not be using a space heater in my bedroom or any part of my apartment ever again.

I absolutely love surprises. I think that the only thing that I like more than being surprised is surprising someone else. My husband is a planner, and he would rather know things ahead of time than be surprised by something. I guess opposites really do attract because I am certainly not a planner, and I love surprises. I enjoy surprising him against his will quite often. In the end, he is usually really happy with what I surprise him with, and it also gives me a chance to do what I love. My husband and I recently worked on a surprise for my grandmother together. She has always loved the heated flooring in our house, and we wanted to surprise her with heated flooring in her house for her birthday. It was not an easy task. She never leaves her house for longer than a couple of hours at a time. I ended up inviting her over to our house for a weekend visit. We live about an hour and a half away, so she usually stays the night whenever she comes to visit. We celebrated her birthday at our house, and little did she know that heated flooring was being installed at her house. My husband knows of a really great HVAC company in her area, so we hired them to install the flooring. There were a couple of hurdles along the way, so it ended up taking a day longer, and it was super hard to convince my grandma to stay another day at our house, but we were eventually able to do it. She was so surprised when she returned home, and there were heated floors installed throughout the entire first floor of her house.

My parents always said “show me your friends, and I will show you your future.” It was a pretty powerful statement in my mind.

I truly believe that that statement kept me from making many wrong choices when it came to picking friends.

I am so thankful that I have never had a friend that lead me down the wrong path. Although I did not have any bad friends, I did have many crazy friends in my childhood. I have to admit that some of them were quite odd. I had one friend who had a strange phobia of not having the air conditioning on in her room. If she did not have the air conditioning on, she would stat having a panic attack. She kept the air conditioner on 24/7, year round. We lived way up north, so most of the year was not warm enough to even need to use an air conditioner. She did not care though. She never turned her air conditioner off, and her siblings knew how much she could not stand sleeping without air conditioning. They would sneak in her room at night and turn off the air conditioner. It was truly a very unkind thing to do, but somehow, she lived through it. I can remember countless nights sleeping over her house and freezing all night long. I always brought extra blankets, but it was still so cold in her room that it was hard to sleep. My family ended up moving, and we lost contact with that precious friend of mine. I wonder if she still has to sleep with air conditioning some twenty-five years later.

My husband, Todd, does a lot of traveling for his job.

He gets to travel all over the United States, and sometimes, he even gets to travel outside of the States.

My favorite trips are the trips that I get to go with him. I do not get to go with him very often, so we make the most of it when I do get to go. The last trip that I went on was by far my favorite. It was so much fun. We traveled to Asia, and we got to stay for about two weeks. We had the time of our lives sightseeing, and the best part was that our hotels were all paid for by his company. It was certainly a trip of a lifetime, but something happened at home while we were gone that we were unaware of. There was a bad storm one night, and the power was off for about half a day. It would not have been that big of a deal if our furnace would have turned back on after the power outage. It was about a week before we got home when the power went off, so by the time we got home, the furnace had been off for an entire week. This was in the middle of January, and it was below twenty degrees outside. We literally came home to a freezing house. The pipes were frozen, and we were so upset. My husband tried to fire up the furnace when we got home, but it would not turn on. We ended up having to call a HVAC technician to come fix the furnace for us. We replaced most of the pipes in our home, and in the end it was quite an expensive ordeal.
