It’s not at all the sort of experience I was hoping for.
But at least I got the whole family out of the central air conditioning of home for a camping trip.
This was a trip that I had wanted to do for a long time. I grew up in a region where the fall weather is just perfect for camping. And that region offers so many beautiful places to experience nature. Along with miles and miles of trails, there are endless wonders to behold. When I was a kid, I was always out in the wood instead of inside the air conditioning of the house. But my parents brought me up camping and I took to it as though it was second nature. I’ve kept that going as an adult but it’s been limited to solo trips or camping excursions with like minded souls. That’s because my family really doesn’t like to get out of the heating and cooling comfort of our home. I don’t think it’s so much the HVAC they miss as it is all the other comforts of home. So when I suggested that we go camping this past fall to experience my home region, I didn’t get much of response. But this was something I really wanted my family to experience and experience together. So I ended up having to compromise when it came to the type of camping trip we went on. Instead of being out in the wilderness, we ended up car camping in a campground. There were showers, kitchens and even wi-fi. But the toughest thing for me was to include a space heater since we had an electrical hookup at the campground.
