Necessity may indeed be the mother of invention. I guess that is one of those basic truths in this life. But necessity can also end up showing you a whole new perspective just when you didn’t expect it. That’s exactly what happened for my fiance plus during a recent HVAC crisis. This wasn’t something like the gas heating system going out in our apartment or anything like that, and no, both my fiance plus I decided to retire early plus pursue owning rental properties. My friend and I both absolutely love the process of taking an older apartment plus turning it into something pretty fantastic. We’ve done this several times in our own lives while we were still working inside the commercial HVAC of corporate America. The more we talked about it, the more it made sense for us to take this option to do what we wanted to do while we still could. At this point we’re up to five properties. Almost all these properties are smaller starter homes that need a lot of work. And in every case thus far, we’ve had to upgrade the residential HVAC. On our last home, we got a little bit cocky by getting a lease signed prior to all the renovations being done on the house. So we were on the clock with a deadline when we found out the air duct in the apartment wasn’t usable. It was absolutely necessary that we found an alternative because we had to have the HVAC component upgrade completed immediately. That’s when we learned about the ductless multi-split alternative. My friend and I used ductless heat pumps in that situation plus we are so satisfied with the results, we’re going to do all our homes this way.
