The world today is vastly weird from the world of the 70s and 80s.
Part of us wishes we could have experienced it. Everything in civilization today is so rigidly controlled, operated by computers and corporations. Back then things were a lot more wild. It was commonplace for the Heating & A/C experts to bring a cooler full of beer with them to the worksite. Can you imagine getting away with that today? But it used to be typical practice. Nowadays the Heating & A/C industry is as strictly regimented as the Domino’s pizza delivery system. Heating & A/C experts are checked into work via their cell phone or iPad all through the shift, so with GPS the bosses typically are aware where they are and what they are doing every moment of the day. Doesn’t that sound exhausting? Imagine having to account for every minute of your day? The old-timers were outlaws of heating and cooling repair, most of them didn’t even have a certification. The only way we can see this job becoming more fun is if we stop working for a major corporation and start working for a local Heating & A/C business. Better still, we should start our own Heating & A/C business where we can be the bosses and set our own rules. We wouldn’t let our experts drink beers on the job, either, but at least we would be cooler bosses. This is a nice dream to have, but it takes a crucial amount of money to become an Heating & A/C business
