The older experts were outlaws of heating and cooling repair

Better still, I should start my own HVAC dealer where I can be the boss as well as set my own rules

I enjoy hearing the older pros talk about the early days in the industry. The world today is vastly different from the world of the 70s and 80s. Part of me wishes I could have experienced it. Everything in civilization today is so rigidly controlled, operated by laptops and big corporations. Back in the early days things were a lot more wild. It was commonplace for the HVAC pros to bring a cooler full of beer with them to the worksite. Can you imagine getting away with that today? But it used to be common practice. These days the HVAC industry is as strictly regimented as the Domino’s pizza delivery system. HVAC pros are checked into jobs via their cell phone or laptop all through the shift. Using GPS the bosses always know where they are and what they are doing every moment of the day. Doesn’t that sound exhausting, having to account for every minute of your day? The old timers were outlaws of heating and cooling repair, most of them didn’t even have a certification. The only way I can see this job becoming more fun is if I stop finally working for a major dealer and start working for a local HVAC contractor. Better still, I should start my own HVAC dealer where I can be the boss as well as set my own rules. I wouldn’t let my HVAC pros drink beer during work hours, either, but at least they’d have some fun. This is a nice dream to have, but it takes lots of cash to become an HVAC corporation owner.
