Tiny Holes Causing Decreased Efficiency

There was so much dust and debri building up in the ductwork that the friction was forming holes

For several months, the efficiency of my air conditioner was decreasing. Little by little, I watched my monthly utility bill rise higher and higher and I didn’t know what was causing it. I took care of my HVAC system and I was diligent about replacing the air filter every three months. I hadn’t experienced any issues with my air conditioner in the past, so it felt odd to me that the efficiency would decrease so much. I tried a lot of different things to save money, but nothing worked. No matter what I set the temperature to or how little I cooled my home, the efficiency was low. I finally decided to call an HVAC professional because I thought something was wrong with my AC system. The HVAC professional told me that there wasn’t anything wrong with the AC system, which was a huge relief. However, there was a problem with my ductwork. There were several holes in the ductwork, which was causing my cool air to escape before it ever reached my living spaces! This is why my attempts to decrease the utility bill were unsuccessful. The HVAC professional told me that he was able to patch the holes himself, but I needed to have my ductwork cleaned. There was so much dust and debri building up in the ductwork that the friction was forming holes. Unfortunately, he was unable to clean the ductwork that day, but I could schedule an appointment for another day. I’m glad I discovered the solution.
